RCPA Ltd Board & Staff
The RCPA office is run by one full time Administrative Officer and an Executive Officer who is based in the office for four days a week. In addition, RCPA Ltd and the way in which it operates is continually overseen by an executive board, with regular committee meetings taking place every six weeks and accountable to the membership at the Annual General Meeting. All Board members have extensive experience of business and the care sector and are firmly committed to the provision of quality care in the county.

Alyson Martin - RCPA Director
Alyson was appointed Director of Care Services at Somerset Care in 1992 and Chief Executive from January 2012. She has worked for the Somerset Care Group since it began in 1991, and prior to this worked for Somerset County Council from 1983-90.

Jill Byford - RCPA Vice Chair - Director
Jill is the registered manager of Abbeyfield Extra Care Home in Taunton. Abbeyfield is an 'excellent' rated independent home within the national Abbeyfield Society, which is a registered charity. Jill has been an active member of the RCPA Board ever since the Association began.

Following initial training as a management trainee with C & J Clark of Street, Steve spent over 25 years working in various senior management positions with two major PLC’s namely BOC and Allied Lyons including the role of Executive Director of Showerings Distribution ( well known for the famous brand “Babycham”).
In 1999 Steve became the owner of a Residential Care Home in Somerset - The Cyder Barn - and ran this business with his wife, Mary. An experienced and successful Care Home operator, Steve joined the RCPA in 2000 and has continued to serve on the Board for nearly 10 years, representing the interests of members on numerous matters.

Roger Wharton - Executive Officer
Roger Wharton joined the RCPA Ltd as their Executive Officer in January 2009 with a wealth of business experience from the care and property letting sectors. A retired Officer in the Royal Air Force, he ran a care home in Yeovil for 12 years and subsequently owned a nursing home in the town until 2006. He also developed and ran a residential lettings agency, which he sold in 2008 after 16 years in business.
Roger is a familiar face to many of the RCPA’s members in the county, as he is a former member of the organisation. He hopes to develop the services provided by the RCPA to benefit members by providing clear signposts to relevant information, maintaining a pro-active website, and providing advice and contacts to help them maintain or improve their inspection rating.
